LBUSD Limited Access for Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS)
We are happy to welcome you back on our campuses and thank you in advance for supporting our students!!! YOU have been missed!!
As of January 3, 2022, the following guidelines are in place to allow for a return of volunteers on a limited basis to ensure the safety of staff and students during the pandemic.
Guidelines:
- Teachers and Office staff shall have a maximum of two (2) VIPS per classroom or office.
- Before working in a classroom or office, VIPS will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or provide proof of negative COVID-19 test each week.
- In addition, VIPS will sign an agreement stating they will adhere to all COVID
- related safety protocols (i.e. mask wearing, frequent hand washing, etc.) while oncampus. The agreement remains filed on campus.
FAQ’s
Q: How do I become a VIPS during these times of limited access starting January 3, 2022?
A: Contact your school site to let them know you are interested in volunteering. Sites will be following new guidelines and will determine their needs on campus.
Q: My school site has asked me to volunteer, where can I find the application?
A: When sites have determined a need for volunteer(s) to be on campus, they will share the link to the NEW online VIPS application.
Q: I have been an LBUSD VIPS in the past, do I need to fill out a new application?
A: A new application will be required for the following reasons:
- First time VIPS in LBUSD
- Expired TB Test (Expires every 4 years)
- Volunteering at more than one school starting January 2022
Q: Who will verify vaccination status or provide weekly COVID-19 testing?
A: Each school site has a current safety protocol that includes verifying volunteers are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test each week.
Q: What will be the safety protocols that VIPS will need to follow while at a school site?
A: VIPS will sign an agreement stating they will adhere to all COVID related safety protocols (i.e. mask wearing, frequent hand washing, etc.) while on campus.
Q: How long will it take to process my application?
A: Processing of a VIPS application can take up to two weeks due to fingerprinting (DOJ and FBI requirement) and Megan’s Law clearance.
Q: Will I have to provide any documentation when filling out the new online VIPS application?
A: The following documentation is still required when applying to volunteer:
- Copy of TB clearance (per state law)
- Copy of a valid CA photo ID
- Senate Bill 792— California Daycare Immunization Requirements for Adults: all volunteers working with preschool aged children must have proof of a measles, pertussis and *influenza vaccination and must provide a health screening affidavit signed by a healthcare provider. (*The influenza vaccine may be waived on an annual basis)
Q: Can I volunteer at more than one campus?
A: Yes, based on site need, if applying to volunteer at more than one school starting January 3, 2022, a New Online application needs to be submitted.
Q: Can I be a Guest Speaker, Volunteer Coach, Volunteer Playground Aide, Student Store Volunteer, etc. on campus?
A: At this time, VIPS are welcomed back on a limited basis to support classrooms and the main office. There will be a maximum of two (2) VIPS per classroom or office.
Q: If I am not vaccinated, will the district provide weekly Covid testing to VIPS?
A: VIPS will be responsible for securing their own COVID testing; they will not test at the site.
